Answering Questions About Dental Checkups

FAQs From Your Dentist in Boise, ID

Whether you’re new to our office or a current patient curious about your dental care, we welcome you to read answers to common questions that many patients have about routine appointments and our office:

What should I bring to my first dental appointment?

Before your first appointment, please remember to complete our new patient forms. If you do not complete these forms beforehand, We will also ask about dental insurance before your appointment to determine your coverage. When you visit our office, you can bring any referral forms or claim forms as needed. We will also ask you about any current medications you take and about previous dental care

Is it safe to visit the dentist if I’m pregnant?

Yes, routine dental check-ups and cleanings are safe for pregnant women. Although it may be difficult for patients to lay back even early on in their third trimester, we actually recommend cleanings for pregnant women.

Changes in hormone levels can impact gum health, leading to gingivitis and possibly periodontitis or gum disease. Routine cleanings help remove harmful bacteria to keep gum problems at bay. We will not recommend extensive or complex care for pregnant women, but we will recommend cleanings.

What do I do if it has been a long time since my last dental visit?

We know that life can get in the way, and some patients may feel nervous or anxious about visiting the dentist. Don’t worry if you haven’t been to the dentist in years; we will work with you to schedule your appointment. We will examine your smile as we would with any other routine appointment and help determine if there are any dental treatments that you require.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Patients should visit the dentist every six months or twice a year. We may recommend that patients visit our office on a more regular basis if they have chronic dental problems like periodontitis or gum disease. Chronic conditions will require more care to keep symptoms at bay.
