A crown is a cover or a “cap” that is placed on your tooth to restore its normal shape, size and function.  Crowns are made from several different types of materials.  Metal alloys, ceramics, porcelain or combinations of these materials may be used.  The purpose of a crown is to improve the strength of a tooth or improve its appearance.

You may need a crown if your tooth has a cavity that is too large for a filling, the tooth is cracked, has had a root canal or simply want to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth to improve your smile.  Several steps are involved, but a crown at LIFESmiles Dental can ususally be completed in one appointment.  Dr. Garpetti and Dr. Elliott utilize the most up to date dental technology by use of CEREC® same day crowns.  Patients no longer have to wear temporary crowns and can have treatment completed within just a few hours.
